Ice Rescue Project.doc - This project is good for basic algebra skills for 7th and 8th grade. In this project students must decide on a method for rescuing a child on a pond covered in thin ice by calculating the amount of force they would place on the ice using each method. Students present their results by writing a news story of the rescue event.
CAR FOR SALE.doc - In this project students locate a car for purchase and calculate loan payments based on given interest rates and time periods for the loan. The students are given several loan choices and asked to decide which would be the better loan. Students present their findings by writing a reason for choosing the loan and why the other loans were not the best choice. This project could also be used in grades 7 or 8.
